I have a hope that medicare spending per person is approaching the point of topping out. After all how much more surgery and expensive stuff can you do?
JW - Some chance. Surgery may not grow, and after all its dangerous and painful so there's a limit on when people will tolerate it, but the scope to invent more and more expensive drugs, prosthetics and non-invasive treatments for more and more marginal conditions is huge. The only way medicare will ever be got under control is to start to limit benefits to what's affordable, rather than what is "medically necessary". Some chance of that.
